Today would have been Sir Robin Day’s 100th birthday. He died in August 2000, aged 76.
In the last few years of his life, I used to see him quite often at lunchtimes. Though pretty much retired by then, he would have read and absorbed everything in the morning newspapers, quizzing me relentlessly on politics and the law.
