The speculation I reported yesterday that Martin Howe QC was to be appointed to the Ministry of Justice turns out to be entirely wrong. The new minister will be Sir Christopher Bellamy QC, 76, a former EU judge who also sat part-time at the High Court in London.
He will receive a peerage so that he can speak for the government in the House of Lords.
