Committee accepts legal opinion that women have always been eligible to join

The Garrick club has accepted legal advice that women may be elected as members without the need for a change in the rules.

The club’s general committee agreed by a majority last night that it would accept the advice and follow it, subject only to approval of its decision by a simple majority of those voting at a members’ meeting planned for next month.…
