Her late Majesty
Queen dies at Balmoral
Like so many people around the world, I had the great privilege of meeting the Queen and exchanging a few words with her. The first occasion was in 2007, when she visited the Old Bailey to mark the court’s centenary. The second was in 2015, when she held a reception at Buckingham Palace to mark the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta.
She was charming, lively and extremely well-informed.
Another great privilege of mine was my appointment in 2016 as as one of Her Majesty’s counsel learned in the law honoris causa — honorary silk, or QC (hon). With the accession of His Majesty, Queen’s Counsel become King’s Counsel — a rank that nobody has held for 70 years.
May her memory be for a blessing.
