Ever since Dame Sue Carr was appointed to succeed Lord Burnett of Maldon, there was speculation about her judicial title. Would the new head of the judiciary of England and Wales be called the lord chief justice, like Burnett? Would she be lady chief justice, like her counterpart in Northern Ireland, Dame Siobhan Keegan? Or would she simply be chief justice — as I suggested before she was appointed.
Carr has been punctilious in saying nothing about her new post before she takes office. But now we know.
