Ten days ago I received a message on LinkedIn from a research analyst at a business support organisation. Her name came up in Cyrillic characters and although her company website had a non-geographic suffix I soon established that it was based in Ukraine — no doubt with its main office in Kyiv.
The analyst indicated that she was interested how English legal firms were regulated and asked if I might be able to help with a project. Exactly what she had in mind was not clear. But it would almost certainly lead to a conflict of interest with my other work.
As a journalist, though, I was sufficiently intrigued not to send her a flat denial.
