An 'interesting read' indeed: politics, judicial politics, and the law in its own form of action. Many thanks, as so often, Joshua. Whatever one thinks of Lord Hoffman - I can think of a few very important judgments of his - he was so unwise not to declare his interest in the case (better still to recuse himself in the first place) and to refuse to talk to you about it afterwards

A greater insight to the backdrop of this case and such an interesting read. A highly recommended for all law students.

The days of pre-prints are now generally over. You get a PDF now, although still no money! It's probably better as I was never sure what you were supposed to do with 50 pre-prints of a niche article that nobody wants to read. I could never imagine myself stopping people on the street and saying, "would you like a copy of this? It's a detailed dissection of a recent Court of Appeal judgment"?!

I'm obviously getting old as it doesn't feel a quarter of a century ago when this blew up. I remember at the time thinking how seismic it was when the House of Lords needed to overrule itself. I never understood how Lord Hoffman managed to stay. There was rumours that other Law Lords and senior judges had said he should be honourable and resign.
