As a pedestrian (with some mobility issues), as a car driver of 50 years and as an experienced and keen cyclist of almost 40 years I can see all sides of this tragic case – but I have read many comments on Twitter asserting the cyclist to be at fault in that she should not have been on a pavement, and that the pedestrian was within her rights to articulate that pavements are for pedestrians.
Thank you, the sentencing remarks illuminate a complex case. It's heartening to see the CPS going for a retrial since it is so rare to have a hung jury (see the recently published statistics by Professor Cheryl Thomas).
